BUILDING A TRUSTED BRAND FOR A BOUTIQUE REAL-ESTATE DEVELOPER


Maslow Development Inc. is a real estate development company that co-designs and develops community-benefiting additions around high performing public schools. A few years ago, Maslow Development Inc.’s founder, Derwin Sisnett, led the effort to revitalize one of the most distressed neighborhoods in the city of Memphis through the development of a mix-used complex anchored around a 500-student highschool and a 600-person elementary school. This resulted in the addition of a community center, a recreation center, a dental clinic and a health clinic for the families and their children who attend the schools in the area.

As a new up and coming, social impact minded property developer based in New York, the visual identity draws from a dynamic language of activism juxtaposed with the sophistication of a trusted developer in the industry. The use of the two primary color combination and the playful yet loud use of typography differentiates Maslow Development Inc’s presence in the industry as something novel and fresh.

The logo symbol Is a nod to the core mission of Maslow Development Inc which name derives from Arthur Maslow’s Hierachy of Needs. A symbol that represents safety and security while providing the prospect of educational fulfillment in a community. The primary identifier of the symbol is displayed in a circular stamp or can be detached with the logotype in different applications.

RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY

Based on the context and information gathered through the first two stages of the process. We felt it was nessicary to come up with several personas to define Maslow’s brand characteristics to guide us in developing not only a cohesive visual language but also to set a relatable tone to it’s audience.

The outcome which was agreed upon by us and the leadership team was to go with the artist persona - a creative rebel pushing for a message of social change through engagement and interaction. In their industry's eco-system, growing an innovative and colorful personality allows Maslow to set their unique tone, stand out in the crowd and push their positive message across a range of different groups of people.
