Defining a home visual experience
As an photographer at heart, I was drawn to WHIM, a NYC-based startup creating a connected art and app visual experience for the home. I joined the WHIM design team as the first dedicated product designer in 2018.
WHIM sells a display named the ‘Canvas’ and a subscription service which provides subscribers artwork from our ‘creators’.
Where we were
Users controled their display through our iOS app and creators uploaded content through our web app. Originally designed just as a remote that allowed users to discover content through the feed called the ‘WHIM Fall.’
Users were limited to uploading images and discovering, often times, ‘irrelevant’ content. Over time, we introduced new features like the transform studio and a way to discover relavent content through the new ‘featured’ page.
What did we learn?
How do you turn off the Canvas?
2. Tell me whats up
3. Canvas ID
4. Less work more stuff
5. Keep it consistent
